Exam Ready: Understanding the SSC GD Constable Syllabus for Better Preparation

The Staff Selection Commission General Duty (SSC GD) constable exam is one of the most sought-after exams in the country. This exam is conducted for the recruitment of constables in various departments such as CRPF, CISF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, and more. The exam is conducted in three stages – Computer-Based Test (CBT), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and Physical Standard Test (PST). The syllabus for each stage is different and needs to be understood well before starting the preparation.

Computer-Based Test:
The CBT is conducted in online mode and consists of four sections – General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English/Hindi. Each section carries 25 marks, and the total marks for the exam are 100. The duration of the exam is 90 minutes. The syllabus for each section is as follows:

General Intelligence & Reasoning: This section tests the candidate’s mental ability and logical reasoning. It includes topics such as analogies, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, relationship concepts, arithmetic reasoning, and more.

General Knowledge & General Awareness: This section tests the candidate’s knowledge of current affairs and general awareness. It includes topics such as history, culture, geography, economic scene, scientific research, sports, and more.

Elementary Mathematics: This section tests the candidate’s basic knowledge of mathematics. It includes topics such as number systems, decimals, fractions, percentage, ratio and proportion, averages, interest, profit and loss, discount, mensuration, time and distance, time and work, and more.

English/Hindi: This section tests the candidate’s proficiency in English/Hindi language. It includes topics such as comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and more.

Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test:
Candidates who qualify for the CBT are called for the PET and PST. The PET consists of a race, long jump, and high jump. The PST consists of measurements of height, chest, and weight. The details of the PET and PST are given below:

For male candidates:
Race – 5 km in 24 minutes
Long jump – 14 feet
High jump – 3.9 feet
Height – 170 cm
Chest – 80 cm (expanded 85 cm)

For female candidates:
Race – 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes
Long jump – 10 feet
High jump – 3 feet
Height – 157 cm
