SSC Stenographer Qualification

The qualifications required to apply for the SSC Stenographer exam include educational qualifications and skills in stenography. Here’s the detailed qualification required:

1. Educational Qualification:

  • For Grade ‘C’ Stenographer:
    • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.
  • For Grade ‘D’ Stenographer:
    • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.

2. Skills in Stenography:

  • Candidates must possess certain skills in stenography as per the notified standard. The skill requirements include:
    • For Grade ‘C’ Stenographers:
      • Dictation: 10 minutes at 100 words per minute (w.p.m) in English/Hindi
      • Transcription: 50 minutes (English) and 65 minutes (Hindi) on computer
    • For Grade ‘D’ Stenographers:
      • Dictation: 10 minutes at 80 w.p.m in English/Hindi
      • Transcription: 50 minutes (English) and 75 minutes (Hindi) on computer

Note:

  • Stenography Skill Test: Candidates who qualify in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) are called for the skill test. The skill test is mandatory for all candidates, and they must qualify it as per the required speed and accuracy.
  • Language for Stenography Test: Candidates have the option to choose either English or Hindi for the stenography test.
  • Typing Skills: Apart from stenography skills, candidates should have good typing speed and accuracy as they need to transcribe the dictated matter on a computer.

Other Requirements:

  • Basic Computer Knowledge: Candidates should have basic knowledge of computers as the transcription of stenography will be done on a computer.
  • Physical and Medical Standards: Candidates must fulfill the physical and medical standards prescribed by the SSC for the Stenographer post.
  • Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India, or they must fulfill the nationality criteria as specified by SSC.

Note:

  • Candidates appearing in their final year of 10+2 or equivalent examination are also eligible to apply, provided they possess the required educational qualification at the time of applying and also during the skill test.
