UPSC IFS Syllabus

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination to recruit candidates for various posts in the Indian Forest Service. It is considered to be one of the toughest national level examinations in India. If you are appearing for the IFS examination, it is essential to be well-versed with the IFS Syllabus.

IFS Preliminary Syllabus

The IFS Preliminary Examination is an objective type of exam that consists of two papers – General Knowledge and Aptitude Test. The IFS Preliminary Syllabus is as follows:

Paper 1 – General Knowledge

Current events of national and international importance.

History of India and Indian National Movement.

Geography of India and the world.

Economic and Social Development.

Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change.

General Science.

Paper 2 – Aptitude Test

Comprehension.

Interpersonal skills including communication skills.

Logical reasoning and analytical ability.

Decision-making and problem-solving.

General mental ability.

Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) and data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc.) (Class X level).

English Language Comprehension skills (Class X level).

IFS Main Syllabus

The IFS Main Examination is a written examination consisting of six papers. The IFS Main Syllabus is as follows:

Paper 1 – General English

Comprehension of given passages.

Precis Writing.

Usage and Vocabulary.

Paper 2 – General Knowledge

Current events of national and international importance.

History of India and Indian National Movement.

Geography of India and the world.

Economic and Social Development.

Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change.

General Science.

Paper 3, 4, 5 and 6 – Optional Subjects

The IFS Main Examination allows the candidates to choose two Optional Subjects from the following list:
